Through continued investment, strategic acquisitions and more than two decades of building our own secure fibre network, we’ve grown to become one of Australia’s largest network infrastructure providers. Our 51,000km national fibre backbone, and 14,700 km of international subsea cables, is purpose-built for business, delivering the scale, performance and agility required to meet the needs of our customers as they prepare for what’s next.

Our history
For more than two decades, we’ve been strengthening Australia’s digital backbone and beyond through purposeful growth and investment.
Our history includes these milestones:
- 2002 - Started next-generation fit-for-purpose network build
- 2008 - Vocus formed
- 2010 - Rolled out regional fibre backbone and acquired data centres
- 2015–16 - Made several telecommunications acquisitions, including the North-West Cable System and the Australia–Singapore Cable
- 2019 - Built Coral Sea Cable System for the Australian Government
- 2021 - Announced major satellite and fibre investments, including Darwin-Jakarta-Singapore subsea cable system
- 2022 - Announced East Coast subsea cable system
- 2024 - Partnered with Google on Australia Connect, linking Southeast Asia with North America
- January 2025 - Launched 400G coast-to-coast Wavelength Ethernet services
- July 2025 - Secured government approval to acquire TPG Telecom’s enterprise, government and wholesale fibre network
