Updated 8 March 2025, 12:00 AEDT

We continue to monitor ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and we worked overnight to reinforce emergency power at one of our facilities in the Byron Shire because of power outages in the area. We also have additional emergency power generators and fuel in Toowoomba and Coffs Harbour ready to deploy if needed.

No Vocus enterprise, government and wholesale services are affected at this stage. However, it is possible the significant rainfall and sustained high winds expected in the coming days may still pose a threat to our assets.

As a critical infrastructure provider, we are closely monitoring the progress of Tropical Cyclone Alfred in Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. We are also working closely with the National Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Service Organisations and other critical infrastructure operators in preparation of any impacts to our network.

We anticipate significant power disruptions and flooding with the potential to affect services and have taken several steps to safeguard our network and people.

A network embargo is in place on all works from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland to Kempsey in New South Wales, including both intercapital routes between Sydney and Brisbane.

We have also confirmed response plans with our Queensland and NSW teams who are on standby to respond as soon as it’s safe to do so, deployed backup generators to selected sites, and we have an emergency Controlled Environment Vault (CEV) on standby to be shipped as needed.

Our priority is always to preserve the safety of our team and protect our assets. As the situation unfolds, we will monitor conditions and respond as needed to ensure you stay connected.
