Our sovereign heritage
Today, Vocus owns and operates an extensive optical fibre network throughout Australia, the Indo Pacific region and beyond. The basis of this Critical Infrastructure was the Mission Transport network with the build started over 20 years ago by Nextgen Networks Pty Ltd (Nextgen) to meet the needs of the Commonwealth Government.
Vocus Group Limited (Vocus) is an Australian owned and operated company. Vocus is now a private company under the 50:50 ownership of Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super. The new ownership has given Vocus greater financial strength and flexibility and access to outstanding commercial acumen and corporate finance expertise.

Our growth story
Vocus was formed through multiple mergers and acquisitions. We pride ourselves on differentiating on our delivery, on our service and how we operate. As part of our growth we are well underway on a 5-year investment program, which will see us extend our geographic reach, upgrade our capacity, enhance our security credentials, capitalise new technologies, and enrich our product suite.

At Vocus, through our acquisition of Nextgen Networks in 2016, and our leading position as a specialist provider of fibre and network solutions, we deliver the highest levels of security and reliability to the Department of Defence, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Department of Home Affairs, the Australian Taxation Office and many more Federal, State and Territory Departments and Agencies for their most secure communications. It’s our ability to deliver communications that simply can’t fail, that sets us apart as a trusted supplier.
The network has been expanded and upgraded over time to remain the most resilient and secure communication transport network in Australia offering more capacity to more areas of Australia that any other network. Vocus’ subsea network support the critical operations of the off-shore resources sector, Federal Departments and Agencies; and connects neighbours in southern Asia to Australia.

Network Operation Systems
Vocus operates the Vocus Nextgen network with 24 x 7 x 365 surveillance and management of network infrastructure supported by a skilled national field workforce. The Vocus Nextgen network is only accessible, and is managed by, AGSVA security cleared staff to NV1 or better.

High-performance international connectivity
Our network extends across the Tasman into Asia Pacific via our Australia Singapore Cable and major global gateways. We also offer connectivity to the United States via the Southern Cross Cable Network or the Hawaiki Cable which is equipped with physically diverse paths built for protection and redundancy.

Looking ahead to the future needs of our customers
Satellite service capabilities
Companies like Starlink, OneWeb, Amazon Kuiper and TeleSat are set to deliver global LEO constellations, with plans to offer services in the Australian market. With 20+ years experience as a nationally scaled, licensed telecommunications carrier, and recipient to Australian Space Industry Award at both the 2022 and 2021 ACOMM Awards, Vocus is investing in our fibre to provide the foundational infrastructure enabling these services.
